It’s grocery day!

Mmm… yogurt, granola, and plums.  I’ll bet those three things will go well together.

Mmm… that basil is whispering to me, “I want to be pesto.”

The chicken is dead, yes.  I’m no vegetarian.  But the chicken had a good-quality life, doing chickeny things like wandering outside pecking things.  It’s totally true that a chicken that has lived like a chicken tastes more like a chicken than a chicken that lived in a chicken factory.  I’ve got the whole-chicken thing nearly down to a science.  First, the chicken gets roasted, and I enjoy a piece with vegetables- maybe those things that were labeled “green beans” but are definitely peas.  Then it gets cut into pieces, and each piece goes in the freezer in its own freezer bag- they’ll be stir fries and pastas and salads over the next several weeks.  Finally, the carcass goes in the crock-pot to turn into soup.  One chicken lasts me a good long while.

Thanks, Green Bean Delivery.  This, by the way, is their smallest grocery bin, the one for single people.  It’s amusing me to photograph them, to watch the food change seasonally over the course of the year.
